I bought another PS/AC bracket, this one from a '99 A8. Has the same provision for the vane pump, but takes a 3-bolt mount AC compressor found in various V6/V8 VAG vehicles. Compressors can be had for $40, and may actually line up with the drive pulley. I couldn't find any compressors with the 4-bolt mount setup that would work (line up), the mounting holes all appeared to be too far back from the clutch. So, I'm confused about the bracket Ben had, at least on the AC side.

Working on buying more ABZ FEAD bits. Bought an A6 compressor and A8 alternator pulley. ABZ bracket and B4-90 pump lines up great, I have one more pulley to buy, NOS for an A8, then replace the two idlers and fit the ABZ serp belt. Oh, and then figure out the PS lines...

I have my old bad-engine'd '98 A4tq auto still, I was going to replace the engine but I think it will be worth more to me to pull AC parts (lines, condenser, evaporator) and rear brakes off, and (attempt) to make use of them.

I'm also sorting through this problem, similiar problem at least. The factory ABZ mount will use a B5 A4 PS pump and an ABZ pulley (I believe), that all lines up perfectly. My stock B4 AC compressor lines up with 2 of the holes on the ABZ mount and sits in nearly the same spot as original. The pulley is not perfectly lined up though. I'm hoping to space out the pulley and use the factory compressor and lines. Not sure how much of this crosses over to you though...

I looked up AC clutch part numbers, and the C5-A6 uses the same clutch as the ABZ-A8, I think it's a 4B0 number (which would make sense, as the C5 is a Type 4B chassis). The A4 at some point used an 8E0 number, and is visually different than the C5-A6 setup. I've located all of the pulleys used on the front of the ABZ, along with the ABZ compressor/ps pump bracket. I have that bolted to my PT engine right now with the B4-90 vane pump in it. I just have the two rollers and the ABZ belt to purchase as of this evening. Our engine bays are similar but different (B3 vs B4), but many of the same issues and constraints...

Also, a few more items from AK in Poland came in this week. For some reason, I didn't order the offset SF bushings when I ordered the offset USM's from him. So I got those as well as new ARB mount bushings this go around.

Compressor fits and lines up. Alt pulley appears to be the same dimension as the original pulley, I had at first thought it was smaller but I do not think it is. Fan clutch pulley is slightly larger. I'll have to measure them with my calipers. PS pulley is quite close to the AC clutch pulley, maybe 1/8th clearance. Seems a bit too close, but looking at pictures of the ABZ it is correct. Getting closer!

Oh, and I need proper bolts to bolt the AC compressor up. Mine are too long. I hate it when that happens...

New ABZ 6-rib belt and rollers came in yesterday afternoon, and I ordered new bolts for the AC compressor and mounting bracket from McMaster. Guessing those will be here Friday. I had to get a 32mm fan coupling wrench, amazingly enough I didn't have one. That will be here I think tomorrow, Friday at the latest.

Went to change the fan pulley. Yup, didn't have a pulley holder, couldn't keep it from turning. So, early/mid this week I'll have a holder.

Finally got the fan off the pulley, got the ABZ brackets and everything bolted up, ABZ belt on and good. I think the AC compressor will need a new clutch, but I didn't pay much for the compressor. I'm taking a few days off work next week to work on the Q7's (rotors on one, suspension work on the other), if I have time I am going to start stripping parts off the A4tq/auto that will find its way onto the CQ, mostly AC lines, condenser/evap, etc. I believe the rear brakes will also work, those will need rebuilt before they go on and the fronts will need to finally be dealt with. I'll also pull the coils and POS as spares, since they are the same.

Oh, a note for anyone wanting to run ABZ FEAD components on the PT/ABH block; the PS pump/AC compressor bracket bolt pattern is not exactly the same as the block. I got the top rear and bottom two bolts to work. The top forward bolt hole does not fully line up with the threaded boss in the block. It is about a half-hole off. I'm sure I could clamp the bracket in a machinist vise and drill or mill it to match but I am choosing to not do so at this point.

The alternator pulley diameters are identical between the PT, ABH and ABZ. Also, the alternator placement is virtually the same, so nothing needs to be done there. The belt tension mechanism and rollers are also identical between the three. So only the ABZ fan pulley (larger diameter), ABZ PS/AC bracket, a B4-90 vane type PS pump with C5-A6 PS pump pulley and C5-A6 AC compressor is needed to retrofit in order to run AC and a proper 100 bar PS pump, which was my goal.
