Yup. Hope it depreciates enough for me to dream of going into serious debt for.

Holy moly why can't this be real (they will neuter it!).

If this was real, I think I'd sell my M5 to fund it. This is what Audi needs!

Yeah, they have to make it and sell it here so we'll see. I'm hopeful that an RS3 sedan can ride on the TT-RS' coattails into the US. If not, a tuned S3 does not sound bad but is missing something and I'm not sure I'd be happy with the payment:content ratio.

If they make one of these, I might have to get one... after they've fully depreciated. Imagine that car with about 550 whp and that 5 cyl sound!

I would get one in a heartbeat..the only problem is the price…..rumors are around $65000, that is a bit steep…entering P-Car territory.
And I would buy a Porsche over that any day….maybe I'll wait a year after it comes out and pick one up…..

It's really hard to say since the RS5 and RS7 are the only current USDM RS cars. I think it needs to be $55-60k to fit into their price structure. The M3 is $62k but not an exact comp (a fully loaded S4 is about $64.5).

Of course, $60k is not peanuts.

Agreed, on everything but the depreciation. I would really, really consider getting one of these new off the lot. I really don't see these depreciating if they ever make it to the states especially the fact that in the near future we more than likely will be heading towards all electric and these wacky petrol cars will be getting fewer and fewer.

We never know if we're living in the final golden years :)

I sort of feel the same way, I was thinking about it this morning and I'd say there is a good chance that we get an RS3 before a B9 RS4 as the RS3 market should be larger than the RS4. TT-RS values are holding strong so I agree about slower depreciation. I really need some seat time in a good Haldex V car to see what's what before committing to anything; I guess the 90 can be my real AWD car (until I build a GTO).

So I'm wondering, could the rear be overdriven by virtue of some reduction in the rear diff? If we assume that the center DS is 1:1 with the front ring gear, there is still the opportunity to overdrive the rear axle if it is not a 1:1 ratio in the diff. The wet clutch could be tuned to provide enough slip for comfort during casual driving; a 1.2 rear ratio could allow for the equivalent of a 40:60 split with the rear clutch locked. I think.

Unnecessary bump; the Focus RS is doing something like this http://www.automobilemag.com/features/c ... wd-system/

I love my S3 though the RS will be tempting...if it becomes available. That being said, S3's will be running fairly effortless 10's in the very near future. APR's Stage 3 kit is nearing sporting a Borg EFR6758.

The latest rumor I heard, in the vortex thread, is the US RS3 sedan will be released in 2017 as the refreshed MY18 MQB. Not sure I'll be a buyer but it will be tempting for sure.

"What we know:

+400 Horsepower from an all new aluminum block 2.5-Liter inline-5 engine
7-Speed S-Tronic Gearbox
Optional Audi Virtual Cockpit
Optional Audi RS 3 specific shell seats
It will have a facelifted appearance vs current RS 3 Sportback
New headlight design and front grill
Wider track than the S3
It will be awesome!

What we don’t know:

Price
Best guess: $55,000-$60,000 starting
ETA
Best guess: Late 2017 as an MY’18"

Finally, something from audi I'd be interested in owning... If it had a manual trans. Boo.

The last car that interested me from audi was the b7 rs4. I like the v10 a8 too, but that's a different beast.

I love that they've done this in a car of reasonable size though. This is the new rs4 guys.

But because of the manual trans thing, I'd have an M2 instead.

$60k still isn't peanuts, and my frugal side doesn't like the sound of $50k much more!

I had hoped that Audi would've done more aggressive body work to make it look like an RS model and not so similar to the S3. The only thing that is making me "want" the RS3 is the 400hp 5 cylinder...other than that....the rest of it is meh!!!

I wanted it to be more aggressive, like the clubsport, too! Still, optional 255s in the front (staggered w/ 235s in the rear) seem sufficient.

My hangup is if the 50k price tag brings 50k of happiness vs. my 90. I want the 400hp AL I5 in my 90

Lol

That thing is awesome but fuck I wish it were the hatch.

Maybe Nick can chime in - is the S3 staggered? I suppose a lighter engine up front perhaps wouldn't require it.

You could do the same thing on an S3 to add front grip/minimize understeer. It's funny, there has been a lot of talk about the reverse stagger but MTM did it in '95...

No optional Staggered fitment on S3.

I've liked the concept since I first read that article. What would be the biggest challenges to in running reversed wheel stagger?

Brake and wheel clearance? Fenders?

How does that kind of change interface with suspension settings? Do, say, people who switched the rear springs to the front, and run the lighter fronts in rear to alter the balance have to consider different things than those who didn't?
